Do you find yourself trying to be a calm, reasonable and fair parent – before totally losing the plot, shouting at your kids, then feeling guilty?
It’s a common cycle, and one I am familiar with! You want to be different, right? You want to take all that knowledge, all those books you’ve read that sound so sensible, and you want to raise your kids right, so they grow up into healthy, balanced people who contribute good to society. But then, life gets in the way, you lose your rag and you feel like you just can’t manage it.
So, what can you do? What do you need?
The first thing is to replenish your energy. You can’t pour from an empty cup! Learning to meet your own needs is the most amazing way of teaching your children to do that too. Simple, right? When we re-frame our own development as not just for ourselves, but for our families and the people we love around us, it changes everything.
Now, I know you’re busy. I know you have got used to putting yourself last. I know how hard it is to commit to spending time and money on yourself. But the way you are living isn’t sustainable, is it? Something has to change, for everyone’s benefit.
Signing up to the Parent – SOS! course is a change you can manage. During the programme, you will explore your values around being a parent and how this affects your behaviour; learn about how to deal with your own emotions, and those of your children; find out about praise and rewards, and how to use them effectively; and help you to work out for yourself how to be the best parent you can be. This is about nourishing yourself, forgiving yourself for those mistakes we all make, and learning how to trust your judgement when doing what is right for you and your family.
This 6 week programme costs £499. You get 6 individual sessions of an hour each covering the following areas, with ongoing email support for the duration of the programme.
- Session 1: Dealing with conflict
- Session 2: Rules, boundaries and negotiation
- Session 3: Discipline: Using your voice
- Session 4: Discipline: The right way for your family
- Session 5: Rewards, communication & connection
- Session 6: Teaching skills, empowering and problem solving
Bonus material: Relaxation and Visualisation MP3s to support your relaxation, self care and coping strategies.
By the end of this course, you will be feeling less like frantic, shouty Mum and more like a leader in your family – modelling more healthy, collaborative relationships while being clear and firm with your family boundaries. Sounds good? You can change your attitudes, your outlook – your whole family life, while maintaining the things that you love about your family, and your own personal values.
The aim is to empower you to identify the areas of conflict, and work together to find solutions that are right for your family.
Like many parents today, you may have read all the books and know how you would like to be as a parent; but the pressures of everyday life can leave us feeling worn out and exhausted, with no energy to actually implement what we know.
This course provides the bridge between the theory and putting it all into practice, in a way that works for you and your unique situation, with your personal and your family beliefs and values.
There is no one right way to be a parent, but many ways to be a perfectly imperfect, human and loving parent.
We are all in this together, trying to raise out children to the best of our abilities. I look forward to joining you for part of your journey.
You and your family deserve it!
