Finding Balance in the Busy-ness: Why You Don’t Need to Be Constantly Busy

Let’s face it, as busy women, we often feel the pressure to be constantly productive. We juggle work, family, and personal commitments, and it can feel like there’s never enough time in the day. But what if I told you that being constantly busy might not be as beneficial as you think?

The Illusion of Productivity

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that being busy is a sign of success. We often equate busyness with productivity, but the truth is that being busy for the sake of being busy can be counterproductive.

I recently realised this myself. Despite having a relatively quiet morning with the kids off to their new schools, I found myself at my computer, procrastinating and avoiding tasks. I was busy, but not necessarily productive.

The Benefits of Balance

Here’s what I learned from this experience:

  1. Transitioning takes time: It’s okay to take a few days to adjust to new routines. Don’t feel pressured to hit the ground running.
  2. Trust your systems: If you’ve put systems and processes in place to streamline your life, trust that they’re working. You don’t need to micromanage every detail.
  3. You’ve already proven yourself: If you’re a hard worker, you don’t need to constantly prove it. You’ve earned the right to take a break or enjoy a hobby.

Prioritising Pleasure Over Productivity

Instead of waiting for a reward at the end of the day, why not prioritise pleasure and self-care? For me, a bike ride was the perfect way to recharge and find balance.
