It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog, and for a good reason.
I am a hypnotherapist and life coach, and I do practise what I preach; however I recently faced a bout of burnout – again. Even though I spend my days helping others navigate these very issues, I managed to let burnout creep up on me as I got caught up in the “Superwoman” cycle.
The pandemic played a part, of course. While we were fortunate in many ways – we managed to avoid serious illness and we do live in a beautiful place that was a pleasure to be locked down in; the constant uncertainty, juggling work and childcare alongside online learning (definitely not the same as home educating!), as well as the financial strain took a big toll.
Superwoman swooped in, determined to keep everything afloat.
The problem? Superwoman is exhausting. She thrives on “keeping on,” but neglects the need for rest and replenishment. And as I’ve entered my 50s, that bounce-back from burnout I used to have just isn’t there anymore.
It wasn’t until I attended the One Woman Conference recently that it all hit me. Surrounded by this incredible energy, I realized just how “effing hard” the past four years have been. And while a part of me is proud of what I’ve accomplished, another part craved kindness. Kindness to myself.
This is where vulnerability comes in. I’m admitting that I let the tools I use with my clients slip away. I was so busy being busy that self-care fell by the wayside.
So, I’m making a commitment – to myself and to all of you. I’m going to be kinder to myself. I’m learning to embrace the “okayness” of where I am. Better yet, I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. My energy is returning, and with the spring sunshine (finally!), I’m feeling a renewed sense of purpose.
By prioritising my own needs, I can better support my family and be there for you, my clients. But most importantly, I can finally remember to live the life I love.
Stay tuned for more on how I’m incorporating self-care practices back into my life – and how you can too!
